Pinax: A Django Community Platform
From what I can tell, Pinax started as a casual gathering of like-minded Django dudes who desired to put together a little collection of Django apps that might provide a nice launch pad for developers looking to develop Web-2.0-ish apps. After the initial organization of resources, the project has been growing at a rapid pace and is already usable for experimental community sites.
It helps that the team is composed of some familiar faces in the community. When this many tuned-in minds get together good things are bound to happen. I'm planning on getting an idea or two off the ground based on Pinax soon. I have a feeling that Pinax will continue to evolve into a nice community/social platform depending on what direction(s) they decide to take.
